The Inverell Saints have held onto to beat the Tamworth Swans by 7 points at No.1 Oval on Saturday in Round 7 action in the AFL Northwest competition.

Scores were level at halftime before the Saints crept away to a 27-point lead at the last break before the Swans, with the aid of a 3 to 4 goal wind, surged back into the contest but fell short in the 15.9.99 to 14.8 92 Saints win

The win secures top spot on the ladder and one hand on a home grand final.

Meantime the Saints women recorded a resounding 64-point win over their Swans counterpart, in control for the whole game to register a 12.6.78 to 2.2.14 victory.

Mackenzie Berkley was deadly in front of goal with 3 majors while Katrina Doak, Gabby Mooney and Laura Carroll booted two.

The win almost certainly secures a semi-final berth for the Saints.

In the other games played in Gunnedah, the Bulldogs men’s team secured a 7.13.55 to 5.12.42 win over the Kangaroos while the Poochettes thumped the Roos 13.20.90 to 1.1.7
