The NSW Rural Fire Service Namoi Gwydir District has received four new firefighting vehicles worth $1.1 million while more than 60 NSW Rural Fire Service volunteers were recognised for their service at ceremonies held in the north-west this week.

At Bingara on Wednesday, RFS Deputy Commissioner Kyle Stewart awarded 31 Long Service Medals and handed over a new Category 7 truck to the Oakey Brigade.

At another ceremony held in Moree yesterday, officials celebrated the Ashley Brigade’s 20th anniversary, a new Category 7 fire truck was handed over to the Boggabilla Brigade, and 14 volunteers were recognised with long service medals.

Labor MLC for NSW Stephen Lawrence, who also attended the ceremonies, says its important RFS members have access to modern firefighting technology when preparing for and responding to fires and other incidents.
