Works to Inverell’s footbridge across the MacIntyre River are progressing well.
The works commenced in May this year with the existing piers being raised and the deck installed to ensure members of the public are able to cross the bridge in the event of future flooding.
The original footbridge was built in the 1860’s with refurbishments in 1912 but Council believe the crossing had ceased the community’s needs and had to be replaced.
Inverell Shire Council’s Scott Hamilton says the works to the footbridge are expected to be completed by the end of July with further works on the existing footpath expected to start next week.
