Campbell Rises to QLD Reds Captaincy

by | Jul 18, 2024 | Sport | 0 comments

Former Inverell Highlander Jock Campbell has been named captain of the QLD Reds for tomorrow’s clash with Wales at Suncorp Stadium.

Campbell’s elevation to the honour of captain will make him Reds 127th captain across the state’s storied rugby history.

QLD Red’s Head Coach Les Kiss says it’s a wonderful honour for Jock, whose experience and leadership is evident around the Reds every week.

The silky 79-cap outside back is highly regarded by Kiss, who earlier this week branded Campbell’s experience as “invaluable”.

“When I first arrived at the Reds, Jock and Liam Wright were two senior players who helped me a lot around the coaching,” Kiss said. “Jock is a good mentor for the young guys. He has an astute rugby mind and his flexibility to play fullback, wing and outside centre is the versatility you need in squad.”

Campbell will lead the Reds against Wales tomorrow night, the team he played his last Test against and is looking forward to the noise, the singing and the atmosphere whenever the Welsh play.
